Independent field note
Cycling the Pays d’Antrain and La Régalante
La Régalante provides a clear long-distance backbone through the area. Local loops add depth when surface, elevation and services suit the rider.
Use a verified backbone
La Régalante is the signed long-distance itinerary between Mont-Saint-Michel and Nantes. Its route through the area makes Val-Couesnon a natural staging point. Use France Vélo Tourisme’s live route information and GPX rather than a trace copied from the former website.
The Mont-Saint-Michel–Maen Roch stage is the relevant official segment for planning. Check its current length, surface, difficulty and service notes yourself; this guide deliberately avoids freezing figures that may be revised.
Add local depth carefully
The Chemin des Grands Chênes is an official local cycling reference around Bazouges-la-Pérouse. Treat a loop like this as an alternative to extra touring distance, not an automatic add-on. Compare elevation, surface and road exposure with the ability of every rider.
Villecartier can make a useful stop, but forest routes may have different permissions and conditions from a signed road or greenway itinerary. Follow current signs and do not assume every walking track is open to cycles.
Plan the practical gaps
Identify water, food, repair options and a safe overnight stop before setting out. Ask an accommodation provider whether storage is secure, whether an e-bike battery may be charged and what happens if you arrive late. “Cyclist welcome” is useful only when the service you need is confirmed.
Carry a repair kit appropriate to your bike, lights, layers and an offline copy of the route. Mobile navigation can fail and batteries drain faster in cold or wet weather. On shared paths, slow down around walkers and give a clear warning before passing.
Make a resilient day
Build the schedule around one riding objective and one visit. Strong wind, a mechanical issue or a closed section should leave enough time to turn back or use an alternative. Check rail or bus carriage rules directly with the operator before relying on them as a rescue plan.
